Did I Just Break Up With Auditions?

Captured by: Eve Gagne

Hey there, and welcome to The Glow Up Year! I'm Meg, an actress and a model, and your go-to for all things chasing big dreams and making them happen. After years navigating the entertainment industry—on camera, behind the scenes, and everywhere in between—I'm officially stepping into my glow-up era. Think of this blog as your all-access pass to the real journey: from auditions and photo shoots to script breakdowns and behind-the-scenes chaos. I'm bringing you the wins, the lessons, and the moments no one talks about. So if you're ready to bet on yourself, take bold action, and see what it really takes to thrive in this industry, you're in the right place. Grab a coffee or tea, get comfy, and let's do this glow-up together.

Howdy There!

Hey there, y'all! We're back!!! I hope you're doing fantastic. The last couple of entries have been all about modeling, and if you're an actor reading and wondering, "Where's all the acting? What's going on this year?" — don't worry. We're getting to it.

Actually, the first two short films I had booked for this year got canceled—or I guess technically rescheduled. The first one was this really cool vampire short I was recruited for based on other performances I've done. But at the last minute, the other actor had some health issues, so it had to be postponed. We'll talk more about that later this year. And the 72-Hour Film Festival got pushed back too. That one is such a fun challenge where you write, shoot, edit, and submit a full project within 72 hours—a great artistic sprint. So yes, more acting content is on the way.

We're also going to do an entry on demo reels soon! Updating my marketing materials is a big goal this year, and I’ll be taking you through every step of refreshing my reel. Stay tuned for that in the next month or so.

My NEW Audition Method

Now, let’s talk about how I’m changing my audition method this year.

Previously, when I got an audition from my agency, I’d read the details, make sure the role kind of fit me, record a tape, and send it in. But honestly? That process has started to feel like throwing spaghetti at the wall. I was doing so many auditions, and the ones I ended up booking were actually the ones I didn’t even audition for—the ones where a client saw my profile on the agency site and specifically picked me!!!

That made me realize something had to shift.

So this year, I’m being much more intentional. I’m no longer auditioning for everything that comes through. Instead, I’m handpicking roles that actually align with me—my strengths, my vibe, and what I want to be doing. Sometimes I’d get breakdowns that just didn’t feel like a fit, but I’d audition anyway because I felt like I should. Not anymore.

Now, if something doesn’t align, I’m letting it go. And this is not about being lazy or avoiding the work—it’s about not wasting my time or energy. That old mindset of "whatever you give me, I’ll audition for it" felt desperate. This new mindset is about alignment and reclaiming control in an industry where we often have very little.

And let’s be real: we don’t control whether we book the job. That depends on so many factors outside of us—who else auditions, casting directors' vision, agency politics, etc. So instead of spinning my wheels, I’m focusing only on roles that truly fit. I've already turned down four or five auditions this year because they didn’t feel right.

Getting the Most Value from My Model Workshop Photos

Now, as I promised in the last entry, let’s talk about how I’m using my new digitals from The Model Workshop.

Once the photos are fully retouched, I’ll be submitting them to my agency to update my portfolio. I want my portfolio to feel well-rounded—like a visual resume that shows off my versatility and experience. These new shots are especially helpful because they fill a big gap: e-commerce. I didn’t have any photos where the clothing was the focus, so these shots are going to elevate my portfolio in a huge way.

This year, I’m also expanding my representation. I’m researching agencies in other markets (like Connecticut!) that align with my look and energy. I plan to use my new digitals to submit for additional rep, which will broaden the range of opportunities coming my way. That way, I can be more selective and avoid crossover where multiple agents send me the same job. It also ensures I’m working smarter, not harder.

And of course, I’ll be using these photos on social media, my website (which I’m building this year!), and for general self-promotion. At the end of the day, no one sees our work unless we put it out there. These photos show what I can do—so I want to share them everywhere I can.

Once the gallery is finalized, I’ll drop the link so you can finally see the photos I’ve been talking about for four entries. You’ll get a peek at the denim-on-denim look, the pink sweater moment—all of it.

A BIG Thank You

Today’s entry is a shorter one, but thank you so much for being here. There are so many exciting things on the horizon, and I can’t wait to share more tips, strategies, and behind-the-scenes moments with you as you glow up this year, too.

That’s a wrap on this entry of The Glow Up Year! This journey is just getting started, and I’m so glad you’re here for it. If today gave you even a little spark of motivation, don’t forget to share it with another dream-chaser. And if you want more BTS moments and updates, come hang out with me on socials.

Remember, your glow-up is always within reach. It starts with just one bold move. So keep showing up, keep believing, and let’s make some magic happen.

Until next time!
